#5: It’s okay to be eco-fashionably late
The hub and I had two events to go to on Fri’ night.
Event #1: a GLiving organic wine tasting with vegan potluck at 5:00pm (to the right, three wine tasters in front of the rainbow that came out)
Event #2: an 80’s costume party at 9:00pm
Come 4:00, we were getting a little nervous about the logistics - two parties, one vegan side-dish, four outfits (two each), eight miles, and some bright blue eyeshadow. Plus, there was a chance of rain. Plus, the husband wasn’t going to be home until 5:00.
It was then that driving crossed my mind.
I shuddered, gave myself a mental slap, and realized - it’s okay to be fashionably late. It’s cool to be fashionably late. It’s even cooler to be eco-fashionably late.
So, this weekend, the term was coined.
Definition: choosing an earth friendly mode of transportation for social events and arriving a little later than usual.
We were eco-fashionably late to both parties, had a great time, and even got a few green high-fives. Really, when you’re EFL you’re only a little later than the FL people, and we’re doing a tiny bit to help the earth by taking one more car off the road.
Side-note, it feels great to ride a bike in autumn wearing leg-warmers.

You’re the cutest
I take it neither of us are gonna write about how we used the car yesterday to go to Trader Joe’s?
At least we carpooled –

Thanks dude. Yeah T.J’s was a step in the wrong direction, but we carpooled and ran multiple errands - it would have been nearly impossible to bike with your new/used patio funiture and glassware!
Maybe I should look into getting a hauler for the back of my bike….
Seriously? If you do, I’m totally gonna expect you to give me rides
I want to see a larger version of the 80s costume pic! Props for your efforts.
Ha! There’s a reason the pic is so small =) That’s me in the teal off the shoulder sweater dress with leggings and leg-warmers. The hub is wearing the K-fed outfit with gold chains and a sweatband.
hey summer!
this post really made me smile… i started using the “efl” card a few years back when i was bike commuting to work in culver city… my boss didn’t seem to appreciate the excuse…but i still fully stand behind it! because really, bicyclists are pretty darn sexy (and even more so with legwarmers!) and i would waaay rather be sexy and late than just plain late

So true, friend. Nice job bike commuting too!
Update: the phrase has officially been used by peeps other than my husband and me. Averan and Melis of LA Green Living showed up late to Siel’s event. Why? Taking the bus! Excuse? Eco-fashionably late!
[...] It’s not every day that I get to coin a new eco-fashion word. Actually it’s only happened once, and technically it was a phrase (eco-fashionably late). Regardless. Introducing…. [...]
