Oh Lemon Tree, Oh Lemon Tree…
Dec 22nd, 2006 by summer
Yesterday I got the best Christmas gift ever. A little Meyer Lemon tree for my porch garden. Santa (a.k.a. husband) snuck it in while I was out at the grocery store!
Talk about the perfect gift. Not only is it my favorite type of lemon, it also doubles as our very own Christmas Tree.
Sure, it doesn’t exactly smell like pine. But a few ornaments and some LED lights and we got ourselves some holiday spirit.
I even tried to register my new tree under the Million Trees L.A. program, but I guess they aren’t counting trees planted in Santa Monica since technically we’re our own city… It’s okay though, my tree and I know we’re taking a tiny (and tasty!) little bite out of global warming.

You can register it under the UN Billion Trees Campaign!
What a neat giftie!

Hey Summer!
Meyer lemons are the best. I also had a calamondin orange tree that I thought died, but I never got around to throwing it out…and it weirdly came back to life, green stuff creeping up the dead, brown branch. Who woulda thunk it???? (Calamondin oranges are medicinal in Chiense medicine! plus it makes great marmalade)

Marie! Congrats on the revived Calamondin tree! Do you make marmalade?
[...] Gift: I loved the lemon tree my hub got for me for X-mas. Sunny and I are a lot alike so I figured he would be similarly thrilled w/ a Mexican Lime tree. I checked w/ the sister-in-law first, she said, “he’s been wanting one for a long time.” Plus, I figured by planting another tree I’m secretely offsetting the CO2 from his dirtbike (mwah ha ha). [...] I went ahead and ordered a couple different flower bouquets for other relatives. But when it came to my personal gift, I decided to stick to my roots, and order Organic Bouquet’s Tangerine Bonsai Tree. That way, when the services have come and gone, a little bit of grandma’s memory can live on in my porch garden, alongside my dwarf meyer lemon tree. [...]
[...] About a year ago, I was gifted a dwarf meyer lemon tree for Christmas. So for 12 months, I’ve been patiently watering the tree, waiting for the day when my orchard-of-one would produce… wondering if those tiny green things would actually turn into juicy lemons. And yes! Exactly one year later I now deem myself an urban lemon farmer =) [...]
