Sewing is a family tradition for Celestial Sipes, designer of line Aster Park. Inspired by vintage patterns and fabrics, Celestial got a head start with her line after a phone call from her grandmother, who had uncovered a fabric store that was closing it's doors and clearing out unwanted fabric. She salvaged as much as she could out of the store and has continued using this fabric, as well as other reclaimed materials for her collections. Celestial's design process revolves around working within the confines of what reclaimed fabric is available to her. She enjoys the using her this design method, says the designer, "it gives me the perfect reason to go estate sale hunting (which is one of my favorite activities), and it’s the ultimate sustainable material." |
